It is with both sadness and excitement that we see an administration change this month. Diane Troy, our chapter president for the past 5 years, is stepping down and our vice president, Ashley Nurkin, will be taking her place. Diane will continue to be an active part of our group, and although we will miss her stalwart leadership, we are excited to welcome Ashley to this new post in which we are sure she will excel.

Hello Charlotte PFLAGers and Friends,
Since fall of 2012, I have treasured every day served as chapter president. I am thrilled with our chapter’s growth and the direction forged by our dedicated group of volunteers. This year we celebrate our 30th anniversary and thanks to our chapter members and leadership, we have much to celebrate.
We are fortunate to have a passionate group of PFLAGers available to offer peer support to families with LGBTQ loved ones and friends in our community. Our exceptional leadership team (if you don’t mind me saying) addresses issues facing our LGBTQ loved ones and community with compassion and perseverance. For some, they simultaneously began the journey as a parent of a transgender child while courageously and fiercely fighting for the rights of all transgender children at the local school and community level including offering their voices on the state and national level. Charlotte PFLAGers, you are family, and I love all of you! To add to the awesomeness of our leadership team and membership group, we have outstanding people willing to step into leadership roles.
With everything falling into place, I believe this is an ideal time for me to roll off the position of president and let our vice president, Ashley Nurkin, shine. I look forward to moving forward as a PFLAG Charlotte board member along with continuing my new volunteer role as PFLAG South Atlantic Regional Director. I am thankful that Ashley has agreed to accept the position of president beginning May 1st and can’t wait to work with her as our leader.
