Our November meeting was held this past Monday, November 14th. With Diane out of town, Treasurer Jenny Kant led our meeting, and we had an excellent turn-out with returning members as well as a handful of new faces that we hope to see again next month.
We were very lucky to have with us Jennifer Ratajczak and Holly Savoy, local therapists who came to speak with our group about their experience at the Southeastern Transgender Health Summit in Asheville, North Carolina. The event, held September 24 and 25, brought together health professionals from across the southeast to discuss barriers in healthcare and to share resources for transgender individuals. Jennifer and Holly talked about their most memorable moments including activities that explored the importance of recognizing personal privilege and the impact of gender noise on LGBT+ youth. They were also good enough to field questions and comments concerning our post-election fears and thoughts.
We are also excited to announce that, by shopping on Amazon.com this holiday season, you can help support PFLAG Charlotte! Amazon Smile donates 0.5% of every purchase you make to the charity of your choice: in this case, our group. Finally, the One Voice Chorus (Charlotte’s LGBT-affirming choir) holiday concert will take place on December 2 and 3. Members Jenny Kant and Jordan Frederick are members of the choir, and the show (themed “Our Favorite Things”) should be a lot of fun. There is a 7:30pm performance on the 2nd and a matinee at 2pm and an evening show at 7:30pm on the 3rd. For more information and to buy tickets, visit http://www.onevoicechorus.com.
